I think that two hours would do it. If there’s a special exhibit you might stay longer. There’s also a nice cafe in the lowest level, and the PMA also has interesting movie showings. They have a bus tour to the Winslow Homer studio/house/museum in nearby Scarborough (reserve ahead!) I’m a member and go to the museum often.

I went on line. The PMA will be open Friday, Dec 16, from 11 a.m. until 8. It is also open the following day, Saturday, Dec 17, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Admission is $15/adult; $13 senior; $10 student with ID; free under 14 years. BUT: Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., the museum is FREE! Do consult the PMA website for exhibitions, maps, directions. Give yourself time, too, to enjoy the permanent collection.
